Genius Hour Blog 1.1 The Limits of Human Endurance

     Genius Hour #1.1

Today I began my first task for my genius hour called “The Limits of Human Endurance”. I began by gathering text-sources and deciding who and what my research foci would be. After a lot of debate I decided on a couple of books I have read and a few I have not. I am going to be constantly looking for more as my project goes on, but I have enough text-sources to start my study at least. My research focus is as follows: “In endurance sports, one athlete will nearly always prevail over the other(s). Why? What causes these athletes to have more of an edge than the others? And, is what causes these athletes to prevail more physiological or more psychological? Finally, is this causation of elite performance in some an esoteric, unreachable limit that is set in stone and may not be changed by the common athlete? Or, a more exciting possibility, is can these seemingly elusive limits be stretched and bent? “ I intend to study several elite athletes that proved themselves to be the greatest  in their respective endurance sports by doing what was impossible at the time. As of this moment, I have chose to include Steve Prefontaine, Eliud Kipchoge, Louis Zamperini and Roger Bannister in my study group for endurance running. I have not lined out which cycling athletes I will include in my study. I have elected Muhammed Ali (of course) and Rocky Marciano for my boxing focus group. I have various other endurance athletes under a category labeled “other” as I will not be extensively researching their respective sports, whereas Running, Cycling, and Boxing will be covered extensively. I am excited to start researching now that my sources are gathered to a point that I can start!!!

  1. I think you have chosen a very interesting topic of study for your Genius Hour project. This is something that I too have been curious about myself. I think using those books for your research is a great start to this journey. The athletes you have picked are some of the best to have walked the earth and I think they were all great choices. Each one of them seemed to have a different level they reached when competing in their sports. Overall, I think this will not only give you a lot of knowledge about the human mind and body, but also give you ways to better yourself in your own competitions. Happy studying!

Genius Hour 2.4 Movie in the Making

Film Blog 2.4  During this week of filming, I was gone, so the boys could only work on the very few scenes where my character is not involved. They were able to film a couple scenes and we still have a ways to go, but I am confident that we will do great things in the coming weeks with the movie. I was able to view the scenes that the gentlemen were able to make and I was extremely content with them! We still have some serious work to do, but it is all going to work out. We are hoping to have 2/3 of the film done by next week if all goes well.  According to my esteemed colleagues back at Very Nice Productions, they didn't have too many setbacks this week, except for me being gone, of course. Besides that, they were able to get done what needed to be done. However, we need to really get cracking down on this project, because some of our job schedules and other events can conflict with our filming process.   If we can really get after this projec...

Genius Hour 2.5 Movie in the Making

Due to this, we are going to have to buckle down extra hard in the coming weeks to pick up the slack that my absence created. I am deeply sorry for my need to travel abroad to Mexico and to represent my school, city, county, state, nation, and God in the glorious racetrack combat that is track. In contrition for my acts of absence, I vow to make a serious effort in the right direction to get myself and the gentlemen at Very Nice Productions back on track to making an Oscar-worthy film production that will knock off your pantaloons and thoroughly wow you. Now, as Bon Jovi once said, "Have a nice day!"
